History of the Department

The Department of Theoretical and Experimental Electrical Engineering (KTEE) was established in 1969, growing out of the founding nucleus of the entire Faculty of Electrical Engineering — the Department of Electrical Engineering led by prof. Ing. František Poliak, CSc. The early years of KTEE were marked by significant support from teaching staff of other Czechoslovak universities, particularly from SVŠT Bratislava, who were external employees of VŠT. The first head of KTEE was therefore doc. Ing. Ivan Puzjak, CSc. from SVŠT.
From 1972, the first internal head of the department was doc. Ing. Vojtech Šimko, CSc., who at the same time also served as Vice-Dean.

The Department of Theoretical and Industrial Electrical Engineering in the past

The number of staff at the department grew substantially in proportion to the rising number of students at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. Teaching was gradually taken over entirely by internal staff, and the research focus of the department began to take shape. From 1983 to 1990, the head of the department was doc. Ing. Ladislav Šterbinský, CSc. The department was expanded by former staff of the Department of Power Engineering, growing to almost thirty members. The number of students stabilised at around 450 per year. In 1984, the divisions of Theoretical Electrical Engineering, Electrical Measurement and Microelectronic Circuits were created. At the same time, the department was renamed to the Department of Theoretical Electrical Engineering and Circuit Technology.
The department expanded its teaching and research focus into the fields of electrotechnology and microelectronic circuits, in which it established cooperation with the University of Wuppertal.
In 1991, a further reorganisation took place. The Division of Microelectronic Circuits was separated to form the independent Department of Hybrid Microelectronics, and the department was renamed to the Department of Theoretical Electrical Engineering and Electrical Measurement. The head of the department became doc. Ing. Miroslav Mojžiš, CSc. From 1 May 2007, prof. Ing. Dobroslav Kováč, CSc. was appointed head of the department. In 2013, after several years of successfully guaranteeing and providing the Industrial Electrical Engineering study programme at all three levels of study, the department was renamed once more to the Department of Theoretical and Industrial Electrical Engineering. From 1 January 2024, doc. Ing. Ján Molnár, PhD. has been appointed head of the department.
